Data in the Driver’s Seat: Using Data to Steer Your OA Business Strategy

As publishers continue to evaluate business models to support the move to Open Access, many are asking: Which model is right for us? Is it through transformative agreements like Read and Publish? Subscription-funded OA models like Subscribe to Open? Direct deals with funders? A mixed model where the business is supported by different approaches? With decisions that can feel so daunting, publishers are on the hunt for insights into how to move forward. Data analysis to support the transition is key, but the challenge lies in the quality of the data that should be used to inform this strategy. More often than not, data are not structured or disambiguated enough to help provide accurate, trustworthy direction. In this Industry Breakout session, Copyright Clearance Center will share the feedback we hear directly from publishers who are investing in new business models about the key data points and enrichment practices they leverage to inform their strategy. This informative, interactive session will highlight questions publishers are asking when considering new models, identify data points that can help answer those questions and showcase new technology that can help you leverage your data to better understand the best road forward.

We are at an inflection point—our decisions will determine both the value we deliver as an industry, as well as the values we reflect as a community.
