Crowdsourcing A GenAI Prompt on The Future of Scholarly Publishing: “Tell Me How To Implement AI Solutions While Staying True To My Values.”

The prompt is the core element of every Generative Artificial Intelligence solution. Typically posed as a question, the prompt communicates what the user seeks, from the basic the complicated. For this program, the panel—a publisher, a research librarian, and an author services specialist—will lead the audience in development of a GenAI prompt to give SSP guidance on the future of scholarly publishing. Opening with, "Tell Me How To Implement AI Solutions While Staying True To My Values," the audience will work in groups at roundtables to crowdsource the prompt further. The final prompt will incorporate the professional and personal values of transparency, integrity, diversity, and authenticity for researchers, peer reviewers, editors, and others in the scholarly community. Participants in the interactive session will develop prompt writing skills while reflecting on the collision of technology and publishing principles. Mixed-learning: Includes both applied and strategic perspectives on an issue; appropriate for those with at least some experience of the subject area seeking a mix of immediate/practical and future/planning information.

"Inflection Point: Setting the Course for the Future of Scholarly Communication" Huge growth in proposals and publications, a greater focus on researchers as both author and reader, evolving open access publishing models, and the urgent need for equity and inclusion are disrupting traditional publishing infrastructure and processes. In addition, the explosive capabilities of artificial intelligence will likely disrupt every facet of scholarly communication, but represent both opportunities and threats. We are at an inflection point—our decisions will determine both the value we deliver as an industry, as well as the values we reflect as a community.
