About the session
This 60-minute SSP panel will explore the emerging Publish-Review-Curate model empowering researchers through preprint servers, open peer review, and overlay journals. We will discuss how traditional publishing limits access and transparency while new models enable researcher-driven workflows. Guidance will be provided on implementing infrastructure and culture changes needed to support these community-owned approaches. Real-world examples will showcase organizations pioneering open scholarly communication centered around preprint discovery, transparent review, and editor/reader curation into overlay journals. We will make the case that putting distribution, evaluation, and curation directly into researchers’ hands, with openness and transparency at the center, can accelerate discovery and enhance research integrity. Join us to discuss the future of research communication.
