About the session

Last year's Scholarly Publishing Shark Tank challenged participants to pitch strategic investments addressing the industry's most pressing needs. This follow-up revisits those proposals to assess progress, barriers, and lessons learned about turning innovative ideas into reality.

Building on these insights, we'll launch new pitches focused on today's investment priorities. Teams will develop strategies for allocating resources across competing demands—from AI integration and research integrity to workflow transformation and sustainable publishing models. Our "Sharks" will challenge assumptions, probe business models, and push teams to think beyond organizational silos about partnerships and shared infrastructure needed for industry-wide progress.

This interactive format transforms abstract strategy discussions into concrete investment decisions. Whether you're allocating budget at a small society press or major commercial publisher, you'll leave with frameworks for evaluating opportunities, building coalitions, and making the case for strategic investments that balance organizational needs with collective advancement of scholarly communication.
