The scholarly publishing landscape is shifting fast, and the way the world finds, uses, and builds on research is changing, and not just because of AI. This session candidly examines where revenue is heading: what open access models are actually delivering, how the relationship between content and community is being redefined, and what "subscribe-to-context" could mean for how societies monetize their assets. Drawing on emerging research into AI licensing, trust-based differentiation, and the evolving demands of institutional buyers, we'll explore what sustainable publishing looks like in 2030, and why the societies best positioned for that future may be the ones that recognize community as their most defensible asset, not their journal portfolio.
