Hong is a product and AI innovation leader in scholarly publishing and former Senior Director of AI Product & Innovation at Wiley, where he set AI vision and strategy, drive the roadmap, and delivered award-winning services that automate research and publishing workflows. He helped define Wiley’s AI ethics principles, drove innovation for the Wiley Research Exchange platform and Atypon experience platform, and led creation of Wiley’s first AI-driven papermill detection tool—now a leading integrity solution. A former head of AI R&D, he built collaborations with top labs worldwide and earned multiple AI awards, including an honorable mention for the 2024 APE Award for Innovation. He holds a PhD in 3D Modeling with AI (Aberystwyth) and an MBA in Digital Transformation (Oxford). His personal research passion is supporting publishers’ success in their transition to Open Science and helping global researchers know more, do more, and achieve more in the era of digital transformation. Hong is widely published on computer science and AI topics and presents regularly at prominent industry events. He also serves as a COPE Advisor, Scholarly Kitchen Chef, Co-Chair of ALPSP’s AI Special Interest Group, member of STM’s Future Lab, and Distinguished Expert at China’s National Key Laboratory of Knowledge Mining for Medical Journals.

Josh Nicholson is co-founder and CEO of scite (scite.ai). scite is a deep learning platform that allows anyone to see how a scientific paper has been cited, not just how many times and, specifically, if it has been supported or contradicted with evidence. Previously, he was the founder and CEO of the Winnower and CEO of Authorea (acquired in 2018 by Wiley), two companies aimed at improving how scientists publish and collaborate. He holds a PhD in cell biology from Virginia Tech, where his research focused on the effects of aneuploidy on chromosome segregation in cancer cells.

Rebecca Benner has more than 20 years of experience in STM journal publishing. As the current Senior Managing Editor of Anesthesiology (flagship journal of the American Society of Anesthesiologists), she is responsible for the planning and implementation of journal editorial strategies and editorial operations. Rebecca is a member of the Society for Scholarly Publishing’s Early Career Subcommittee, and her professional interests include publishing standards and trends; the evolution of language and usage; and diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging in scholarly publishing and beyond.

Rocio joined ACS in June 2024 as a Publication Data and Ethics Manager. In her role, she provides guidance to ACS journals on ethics cases, promotes best practices and helps draft policies in accordance with industry standards as set by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and assesses research integrity tools for the ACS Publishing Integrity Office. Prior to joining ACS, Rocio worked as an Editorial Manager at Science Advances, AAAS.
