With the advent of new technologies and new formats, there are new opportunities to market content and license it for new uses. With the advent of large language model training, generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools, and new approaches of confirming inputs and outputs of digital systems using Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), the next new frontier of content use and licensing is developing. Many publishers have begun to license their content for AI use, with significant deals being signed by some of the largest publishers. During this SSP Scholarly Kitchen event, Chef Todd Carpenter, CCC Legal and Licensing and Legal Advisor Roanie Levy, and a guest will discuss some of the issues surrounding the market for licensing content to AI models, some of the legal and technical questions that arise, and the future of this new market for scholarly publishers.
